News …

I was hoping last week to blog about the fact that Sqk was now legally ours as our final hearing for adoption order was on Maundy Thursday. However due to the fact that neither of the Annex A authors were there the judge adjourned the case to 2nd May. What is frustrating is that our SW had checked with courts when we got date precisely about this fact as she is on annual leave and Sqk's previous SW wrote the annex A before she left the authority to have her first child. She was told it would be fine – which in the end it is not. In addition the judge was the same one who made original placement order and she wanted to know why the agreement for twice yearly indirect contact with birth parents was now once yearly. Simple answer is we do not feel up to writing 6 letters a year (birth parents plus two birth siblings) and the usual approach is once a year for letterbox anyway. All in all a frustrating day on Thursday which had we been told at start one of authors needed to be there we would have requested an adjournment to next week and would not have got ourselves worked up.

However through all of it now and our SW seems very confident of us getting order next week given that she hasn't arranged another statutory visit although one would be due the week after next. We are on holiday in Scotland (Lauder) that week so wanted to be sure. She has arranged a goodbye visit with us in 4 weeks along with Sqk's new SW. Hoping ours will stay a bit longer so we can talk to her as she has been a major part of our lives for the last 18 months. Probably will not meet her again unless we do adopt again and that is a decision to be made in future once Sqk has started school. Got DH to agree to talk about it late 2015 once we see how our son is doing in Reception. However if a birth sibling comes along we will be looking at foster-to-adopt.

Sqk is still doing really well although pushing boundaries at times. He spent time yesterday running round Granny's garden with his big cousin and then swinging on climbing frame alongside his little cousin. He enjoyed it lots but wasn't happy to wake up from his nap later. But I did manage an afternoon with no TV although today I have had Fireman Sam to get him out of little black stormcloud mode. However most of afternoon have just had music going as he plays around me. We went to local soft-play this morning as I had promised we would. Tuesday we were at another place to meet up with his foster carer & foster-siblings. Much less fallout this time so happy there.

Tomorrow local adoption support group is having a park meet up so we shall go there for a while before we have to go for my blood test – which typically is in middle of nap time. Will have to see if I can get him into buggy from car. Mind you our current surgery doesn't really have the space. Hoping the new building when they move in is more buggy friendly.
